How To Keep Your Body Safe From Cough And Cold In Winters

The flu season is always a matter of worry, and it’s here again. Though coughs and colds are not themselves serious concerns, they spread very fast and are disturbing to deal with. It is believed to have been caused by viruses, and they multiply in chilly conditions. In addition to this, we are not able to spend much of our time outdoors and are confined in a space. Thus, breathing in the same air.

Though the good part is that if you take proper care of your health and follow some simple tips, then you can stay protected from cough and cold.

              Keep Your Hands Clean

The germs of cough and cold can float in the air and can get accumulated on a surface. This way, touching an infected surface is the most common way to pick up this virus. Washing your hands and keeping them clean is important if you want to stay safe from catching cough and cold. In addition to this, you should use a tissue or handkerchief whenever you are coughing and keep sanitizer handy.

              Stay Active

Any type of physical activity strengthens our immune system, as it enhances the circulation of immune cells that helps to detect and fight infections. In addition to this, physical activity lowers down the stress-causing hormones, and this means a stronger immune system. Being active also manages body weight, and this keeps you away from many types of infections.

              Eat Healthy Fats

Healthy fats such as omega-3 fatty acids, have anti-inflammatory properties that keep your body safe from infections. They help in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins such as A, D, E, and K, which are important for immunity. Another type of fat, such as nuts and seeds, reduces inflammation in the body. The best part is that they work as a long-lasting energy reserve. So, it’s the right time that you add them to your diet.

              Have A Flu Shot

When you take a flu shot, it protects your body against seasonal infections like cough and cold. It lowers the chance of contracting the virus and prepares our immune system to fight against it. Sometimes these viruses can altogether lead to some other complications such as pneumonia and asthma. It is not necessary that you won’t catch the flu after you get a flu shot, but the symptoms will be much milder than they would be earlier.

              Take Steam

Winter days are dry because humidity is low. Steam helps to prevent cough and cold by supporting respiratory health. When steam is inhaled, it helps to loosen the mucus in the nose, throat, and lungs and prevents congestion. Steam also makes it easier to breathe and prevents the buildup of germs in the respiratory tract. You can also add essential oils to make the overall experience more effective.

So, if you don’t want to feel miserable and fall sick, follow these safe and effective tips.
